Every now and then there's a song out there that I just become obsessed with... and this is one of them. It's kind of crazy that it all started with Converse going up to Mark Foster and Alain Macklovitch and asking them to come up with a song, but I can't argue with its upbeat, catchy, airy yet electric melody.
Give it a shot. I've listened to it over a dozen times in the past couple days. You can also download it here.

When we wake up
Tomorrow's the day. Wishing the best for all my classmates. When we wake up tomorrow, things will be different for all of us.
For some reason, this song has been resonating with me lately as I look back on what's happened over the last four years and what has been cumulating up till tomorrow (today). When we wake up tomorrow (today), we'll be waking up to new directions. As we look ahead, let's not just look forward to our exciting futures but glance at the rear-view mirror and keep in mind why we got into this jazz in the first place.
Can't believe it's here.
Godspeed.

the winner of the race is...
family medicine.
Who would have thought? It fell as far as a distant third at one point. Funny enough, as I was going through my interviews for other specialties, every now and then things I would say would pop out that would just indicate family medicine is for me. What a strange journey.
now the only question is... where?

the tour
I remember listening to this song the day I got into medical school. Really, it doesn't make any sense in terms of the lyrics or anything... it just sounded triumphant, and that's how I felt at the time.
Three and three-quarters years later I'm sitting in the airport waiting to begin my tour as I (and the schools) decide which residency program I'm going to be joining in July. It hit me as I left my house that somehow these (almost) four years have just whizzed by and I'm at a point I couldn't even fathom when I first got accepted.
How do I feel? It's a mixed bag, as usual. Anxiety, excitement, ... and gratefulness.
It's strange, I try to imagine how me from 2008 would have reacted if he sat down beside me and had a chat about what's transpired over the past four years. He'd probably say I look a bit more tired, and probably with a different style. I'm sure he'd have no idea what was in store for him.
But it's not over yet.

Woodkid - video for "Iron"
Can't wait for him to finally release his LP this year. His EP, Iron, is fantastic. Highly recommended.
More music videos need to be like this, although I guess it's not surprising coming from this guy being an afficionado for video directing.

All-star CD of 2011
As discussed earlier, I've compiled an "all-star" list from some of my favourite albums of 2011. Essentially what I've done is used my favourite first track as #1, favourite second track as #2, and so forth...
A couple honourable mentions were "Helena Beat" by Foster the People, "Lonely Boy" by the Black Keys, and two of Drake's tracks "Over My Dead Body" and "Take Care"
Still haven't decided on my favourite album of 2011... just recently found out about the album As Bright As Your Night Light by Nerves Junior and it's blowing me away...
