first snow

When there's a recent snowfall, or when it's snowing out, I tend to automatically listen to Arcade Fire's album Funeral. From front to back. This is an album I almost never shuffle - it just seems to flow so well.

Maybe it's the soft but high notes on the piano or glockenspiel that are present in many of the songs that just make me think of the snow falling.

200000 kilometers

You can't see it very well since I was driving on a freeway at the time, but yesterday I caught my trusty car hitting the 200 000 km mark. I was not the one responsible for racking up the first ~150 000 but it still felt like quite the milestone for her.

I may be speaking as a romantic in this case, but it felt almost symbolic. There's nothing like seeing a bunch of zeros that makes you reflect about where you are in that situation, or in life.

Times are a-changing. I feel like I'm in the midst of likely the biggest transition period of my life (so far) for more than just the obvious career reasons, and I'm excited.

I can already tell - Chapter 25 is going to be a remarkable one.

Mumford & Sons - Ghosts That We Knew

As fresh as bread just coming out of the oven.

I couldn't imagine hearing this live... beauty.

So give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light
'Cause, oh that gave me such a fright
But I will hold as long as you like
Just promise me we'll be all right

2011 album all-stars

On my drive to work today I was once again contemplating what would be my favourite album of 2011, when I came up with an idea. I'm convinced that listening to sports radio played a role in this revelation.

What if I compiled an all-star album? Like, instead of by position like in sports but by track number? So each album I'm considering would go head-to-head, but it's only the first track of each album that combat, and so on. In the end, there will be an ULTRA album.

I'm stoked. Soon, Frankenstein will rise.

With that said, there's still two full months left... and these guys might make a late push...
