rolling in the deep

Two songs... one a remake of the other. Both of them are so good in their own ways.

Adele - Rolling in the Deep (original song)

Mike Posner - Rolling in the Deep (remake)

Young Galaxy - Shapeshifting

Maybe it's just because I'm up early (by choice), the sun is shining just right through the window, I'm sipping my green tea, or that it's a holiday Monday... but the new album by Young Galaxy, Shapeshifting, just feels good!

They're a Canadian band, which is of course, cool.

The interesting part are the twists and turns the album takes. It switches from dreamy, sunny, jolly to maybe even slightly eery. It could be that Catherine McCandless's vocals are almost inherently haunting, requiring a small shift in the supporting instruments to completely change the mood.

You google it to read about it, or listen to the whole album online here.

Below you can listen to one of my favourites, "We Have Everything".

sometimes you just get stopped in your tracks

Every now and then, usually when I'm on cruise control in life, I find something just stops me in my tracks. This "wall" usually forces me to reflect on what I've been doing recently or the direction I'm going in my life. It forces a sense of "re-appreciation" for the things I have, the people around me, and on what I'm working.

There are a few people around me going through a hard time. Strangely, they are probably experiencing completely different sensations and emotions and the situations they're in are also polar opposites. However, being close to people who go through legitimate trouble and difficulty really gives you a sense of perspective on the life you lead and how truly happy you are with your direction. It's a sobering thought and reflection, but something we need at least occasionally to prevent us from getting lost in hedonism and materialism.

Oh, Zooey...

Trouble with friends? Zooey Deschanel has some great advice here. Those sad sack songs...

sunny boy: just can't get enough!

The other day while shopping at IGA for Cream of Wheat (yes, I have weird cravings), one of the grocers recommended I get this "Sunny Boy" cereal instead. He said it just plain tasted better. So I went for it! And now I just can't get enough!

life charts update: a mess

Charts? More like soup at this point. Chicken soup with rice comes to mind. Maybe I'm just hungry. Seems like things are changing on a daily basis. IM remains stagnant. 5-year EM is falling, and family medicine is slowly rising. Now what?

I feel like I'm really hitting my stride with ICC, but I'm also ready to head back to the city. In the end though, no complaints.

RILL RILL (Clique NewTrends Mix)

Like Sleigh Bells? LOVE Sleigh Bells?!

Even if you don't know Sleigh Bells you need to listen to this remix of one of "Rill Rill". I dare you not to nod your head or tap your foot while this song plays.

perspective

Sometimes it's easy to lose track of how good we have things, no matter the situation. You could be almost anyone in the world, and there's going to be someone who's going to be better at you in something, or doing something you could easily be jealous about.

Keep in mind though that for every one of those, if you really think about it, there could probably be a thousand others who wish they could be in your shoes.

electives coming together...

Submitted by application for a three-week elective at U of T near the end of August. If that goes through, I still have six weeks in July and August to fill up. I'm thinking of going with Emergency Medicine in Cape Breton for two weeks... and then maybe two weeks of Physiatry in Edmonton or Calgary?

sick = FTL

I hate calling in sick. Not only does being sick suck, but I find the guilt is just as bad. Why does it seem like no one except for me gets sick? Yeah yeah, I'm just being paranoid...
